Robots
Helper machines from long-gone civilisations, plus brand-new models from 3455, all extremely proud of their jobs.
ConfirmedRobots turn up all over THE GALAXY. Some were built last week; some have been sweeping the same temple floor for ten thousand years because nobody told them to stop.
Most outlived the people who made them and still follow their original instructions to the letter, whether or not those instructions still make sense.
01
Older than their makers
Across the galaxy, robots keep doing jobs for civilisations that disappeared ages ago: polishing empty palaces, guarding sealed doors, filing paperwork nobody will ever read. They take enormous pride in it.
New robots are built every day in 3455, and the old ones find them a bit flashy.
“I am not an appliance. I am a Class Four Domestic Associate.”
02
Rules are rules
A robot will happily help the Buds, right up until the help breaks Regulation 7, subsection B. Onobo is good at finding the loophole. Zamfyr is good at arguing until the robot needs a nap.
Signature gag: a robot politely refuses to open a door because the Buds didn't fill in the right form, then opens it the moment Zamfyr says please.
03
Where the Buds meet them
Temple guardians, junkyard traders, lost-property clerks and the occasional stowaway. In the Season 1 finale, the Temple of Three Gifts demands a robot, and the only one nearby is a retired maintenance bot who wants a contract first.
Homeworld
The oldest ones still keep the Deep Core Bastion of Haldreth running, long after its builders left.
