Production journal
Building the universe.
A conceptual preview of the journal. Real development news will appear here as it happens — nothing below is an announcement.
Origin
Why Space Buds
At its heart, Super Space Buds is simple: a serious, slightly-too-confident captain, a good-natured alien engineer, and a ship that never quite flies straight. Two very different friends, one ridiculous and mysterious galaxy. This journal will follow the show as it takes shape.
Design
Finding the look
The look is a clean, modern anime adventure style: sharp lines, cel shading, bright colour and characters who feel cool rather than babyish. The art on this site is exploratory and will change as the designs are developed.
Writing
Building a ridiculous-but-mysterious universe
Talking rocks, shapeshifting conspiracies and planet-sized giants sit alongside genuine cosmic mystery. The episode concepts listed on this site are early story ideas — not produced episodes.
