The Endless Dusk / Twilight Ribbon
Vesperon
The sun never rises. They celebrate anyway.
Tidally locked: one side always blazing, the other always frozen. Between them runs a ribbon of eternal sunset where a lantern-lit civilisation lives.
Every year they throw a 'sunrise celebration'. It is a joke. Everyone is in on it except Zamfyr.
The twilight ribbon circles the planet, only a few hundred kilometres wide. On one side the sky is permanently golden, the sun just below the horizon. On the other, stars and frost. People live in the soft light between.
The Vesperonians are artists of light. With no sunrise, they make their own: lanterns of every colour, glow-paint, mirrors and whole festivals built around the idea of a morning that never comes.
Atmosphere
Purple-gold, windy, permanently golden hour.
Local quirk
'See you at sunrise' means 'never'.

Twilight Ribbon
The livable dusk band.
Dayside / Nightside
Lethal extremes either way.
Lantern Row
A city that stretches for a thousand kilometres along the ribbon, one long street lit by a million lanterns.
The Frostward Edge
Where the light fades into night. Explorers who go too far come back with frost in their beards and very quiet voices.
Hazards
- ▲Boundary windsConstant gales where hot air rushes toward cold. Strong enough to knock you off a ridge.
- ▲Heat on one side, cold on the otherStray too far either way and you'll cook or freeze within the hour.
Visitor tips
- ✦Stay inside the ribbon.
- ✦Bring a lantern. You'll be given ten more.
- ✦Never say 'see you at sunrise' to someone you like.
Local life

- ●Lantern beetles
A day on Vesperon
Clocks here measure tea breaks, not hours. The light never changes, so people decide for themselves when it's morning.
The wind always blows from day to night, warm at your back and cold in your face, and it carries the smell of lantern oil and baked bread.
Locals & customs
Pippa Lanterwick
A Vesperonian child who wants, more than anything, to see a sunrise. Zamfyr promised. Zamfyr always keeps that kind of promise.
Lantern beetles
Glowing beetles that people keep in jars and release at festivals. They always come back.
- ◆'See you at sunrise' means goodbye forever, or for a long time.
- ◆At the yearly Sunrise Festival, everyone faces the golden horizon and pretends very hard.
- ◆Every home keeps one lantern lit for travellers who haven't come back yet.
Legends & history
The Day That Moved
Old stories say the sun once rose here, long ago, before the planet stopped spinning.
Some Vesperonians believe it will rise again one day. Most think that's a nice idea for a song.
Crew log
“I promised a sunrise. I'll get her one. I'll just need to borrow a sun.”
“Very good bread. The light is kind here.”

Waiting for Sunrise
Zamfyr promises a Vesperonian child he'll show them a sunrise. On a planet where that's impossible. He tries anyway.
The crew find a way: Onobo flies the Wobblenaut to the very edge of the ribbon so that for one minute, from up high, Pippa sees the sun's rim peek over the horizon.
Earthward stakes
Vesperonian lantern-tech could save power on Earth's night side cities — if it's delivered intact.
Science inspiration
Tidally locked planets are a real concept. A habitable twilight civilisation here is speculation, not a discovery.
