Glowing Canopy

Moskura

Is that a Kye… or a Qu'ah?

A rainforest stacked in tiers, with leaves the size of landing pads, bioluminescent vines and spores drifting like slow snow. When something disturbs the forest, glowing waves ripple outward through the canopy.

Invisible migration paths cross the jungle, used by Kye herds — and by things that look like Kye. A Kye may or may not be a Qu'ah. That is the whole problem.

Moskura's forest is so tall that its layers have separate climates. The top canopy gets rain and sunlight. The middle is warm and misty. The understorey is dark, quiet and always slightly cold.

It is the home of the Kye, gentle shaggy grazers, and of the Qu'ah, shapeshifters who can look like a Kye, or like you. Locals greet every animal politely, just in case.

Atmosphere

Warm, wet, humming, glowing at night like a city.

Local quirk

Biome filters and canopy sonar are mandatory. Zamfyr uses the sonar as a doorbell.

A day on Moskura

Days are green and gold, full of birdsong and dripping water. Kye graze on the giant leaves and nap in big furry heaps.

At night the whole forest lights up. Every footstep sends ripples of light through the moss, which is beautiful, and also means everything knows where you are.

Locals & customs

Kye and Qu'ah

Homeworld of both the Kye and the Qu'ah. Quincy and Quigley were born under this canopy.

Warden Tamsi

A canopy guide who can tell a Kye from a Qu'ah by smell. She's right about 80% of the time.

The Herd of Nine

A family of Kye that always seem to be nearby when the crew lands. One of them may not be a Kye.

  • ◆Ask a question no Qu'ah would know before trusting a stranger. Locals use 'What did you have for breakfast?'
  • ◆Never cut a glowing vine. It will tell the others.
  • ◆Visitors leave a gift at the canopy edge. Something disappears, and something else turns up in its place.

Legends & history

The First Shape

Moskurans say the Qu'ah once had a true shape, but forgot it after shifting too many times.

Some believe that if a Qu'ah ever remembers it, every Qu'ah will. Nobody is sure if that would be wonderful or terrible.

Crew log

“I shook hands with a Kye. Then it shook hands back. Kye don't have hands.”

Captain Zamfyr

“Something followed us. It was polite about it.”

The Vine That Followed Us Home

An invasive vine hitches a ride in the Wobblenaut's garden dome. It loves Earth gardens. Too much.

The vine isn't the only thing that hitched a ride. Something in the garden dome has been quietly copying Onobo's houseplants.

Earthward stakes

One invasive vine could choke Earth's protected parks.
